We developed a guided and simulative virtual reality scenario that trains a user how to perform the in-field operations of a joint terminal attack controller (JTAC). We have successfully integrated our speech recognition software, TASR (training augmented by speech recognition), into our virtual reality training scenario. With the use of TASR, the guided scenario allows a user to train and familiarize themselves with the complex lexicon and phrasing terminology of a JTAC. This training tool will catch gross errors in judgment and therefore require quick decision-making when training as a JTAC. This scenario allows for an open-ended decision-making experience, multiple ways to attack, multi-aircraft communication, an in-depth AAR, and most importantly, failure states.
