Kanata BIA event:

Here at SimWave, we are lucky to be working in the Tech Park of Ottawa. We get to interact and collaborate with some great tech companies.

Yesterday, we went to the Kanata BIA Business event “ Robots, Virtual Reality & Digital Forensics”  it was a great networking opportunity.

Robotics Club Merge Robotics Spoke About (STEM):

We met with a local high school Robotics group “Merge Robotics 2706”.  They compete against other high schools students all across Ontario. With their custom made robot they promote STEM education (science, technology, engineering and math). Not many youths are pursuing these fields, and they need to be encouraged and motivated to try it. The robotics group is a fun way for students to learn about STEM and to work as a team to create new technologies. It was easy to see their passion for tech, and they had a great time trying out SimWaves Oculus Rift!

Virtual Reality Simulations in Ottawa:

SimWave is one of the few companies that are doing Virtual Reality here in Ottawa.  We spoke about our recent work with museums, health technology, and simulations. A lot of people despite working in tech had not tried virtual reality, so we brought our Oculus Rift and VR compatible laptop to let everyone try it out. A lot of people had questions about the emerging technology. Thus we had our programmers and business developers on site to answer any questions!

Digital Forensics Using Technology to Fight Crime:

Magnet is a computer forensics company that created software to help police fight crime. Their software searches computers, phones, and other IoT devices to extract information (evidence). Through the use of their technology, the police have put many criminals away. Magnet spoke on how they’ve even prevented crimes from happening. Because of the speed of their software, they can analyse the hardware faster, than anyone could manually.

There were a lot of fascinating tech workers: Satellite software developers, human resource managers that use HR software, to real estate agents interested in 360 videos. Can’t wait till the next event and looking forward to learning more about the technology here in Ottawa.
