It is No Longer about Going Paperless but Application~less: Making a tech change to improve task management and customer inquiries: As a team with multiple software developers, we always encourage changes and enhancements to technology! But we also understand it’s not always easy.
How do you know if you need to make a technology or application change?
Recently SimWave decided to try experimenting with a new task management system to organise our workflow. Some of the reasons we decided we needed to try something new were:
Our company has grown and changed: SimWave was using the system of our parent company SimFront which utilises different methodologies than the SimWave team. Although we both develop software, SimWave creates mobile applications, virtual and augmented reality experiences, whereas SimFront handles military based simulations. We have different clients with different needs that sometimes overlap and needed a solution that could handle both of our requirements. We have also expanded all of our teams (admin, designers, and programmers).
SimWave was using a multitude of separate solutions when we could be using one: Having created software to meet our own needs and combining them with purchased or modified applications we were using one too many applications to design our workflows. Also, we had different team members using different applications and programs which made onboarding and collaboration more challenging.
Integration of internal communication and front facing customer communication: If we are using a great program we want our clients to be able to benefit and profit from that application. Beforehand it was difficult to show clients what we were working on and including them in on the process. Now we are experimenting with making it easier to inquire or give feedback on the software we are creating throughout your contract with us.
That’s why we are experimenting with switching to a new task manager! We will be utilising Jira for flexible issue and project tracking for software teams. We will be experimenting for the next two months with this program to see if this system meets all of our needs.
